El Cinco de Mayo Parade

The El Cinco de Mayo Parade began at 1 PM and was only 10 blocks long, but it was long enough to show the pride and culture of Mexicans in NYC.  Prior to the parade was a dance celebration with many colorful costumed characters, old and young alike, swaying and dancing to the beat of the band that played one song multiple times.   108th St and Central Park West was closed down to vehicular traffic and there were groups of people on the streets who were getting ready, helping each other prepare for the parade or were already dancing.  By the time that the parade began, everyone was in a celebratory mood.  There were many families and there were children in …

Worldwide Pinhole Day

B&H hosted a field trip to the Hells Kitchen Flea Market using pinhole cameras, in honor of the Worldwide Pinhole Day. While my pinhole photos are never sharp, they are always fun to create. You just have to remember that you’re taking long exposures, so a tripod is needed and most people will appear as ghosts if they appear at all. Today I used a Nikon cap with a pinhole in it in place of the lens. I’d previously used it on a film camera but never tried it with a digital camera until today. Worked fine.
