El Cinco de Mayo Parade
The El Cinco de Mayo Parade began at 1 PM and was only 10 blocks long, but it was long enough to show the pride and culture of Mexicans in NYC. Prior to the parade was a dance celebration with many colorful costumed characters, old and young alike, swaying and dancing to the beat of the band that played one song multiple times. 108th St and Central Park West was closed down to vehicular traffic and there were groups of people on the streets who were getting ready, helping each other prepare for the parade or were already dancing. By the time that the parade began, everyone was in a celebratory mood. There were many families and there were children in Mexican regalia. And the weather was spectacular. You couldn’t have asked for nicer weather if you tried. What the parade lacked for in length, it made up for in spirit.
